Brief
British Land and Sir Robert McAlpine, are continuing their development of the Broadgate Framework. In 2022-2024 this involves demolition of the building, 1 Broadgate. The replacement design will create a combination of 2 floors of retail space with x floors of office building above.
The design continues to martial the enormous number and natural movement patterns of pedestrians from the concourse level of Liverpool street station through 100 Liverpool street into a new concourse beyond the re-levelled Serra sculpture. The two-storey concourse runs west before turning north with an assent into Finsbury Avenue square at ground level and out into the Finsbury square area.
This year the Broadgate prize invites the teams to consider two design challenges: a large scale strategic design along with a detailed development of a specific area.
Exploration of design ideas for this concourse area on two levels, to meet highly prescriptive material and performance requirements
A detail area, the disabled WC and baby change area and develop a design that fulfils all current accessibility requirements in an inspirational setting well beyond the prosaic limits of process.
